CM Punk, John Morrison and R-Truth def. John Cena, Dolph Ziggler and The Miz when Morrison surprised Cena with Starship Pain for the win.

Tonight’s Smackdown comes to us live from the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, NE as Matt Striker and Josh Matthews welcome us to the show. Advertised for tonight is a series of Beat The Clock contests to determine the #1 contender for Sheamus’ World Heavyweight Championship at Elimination Chamber.

Theodore Long is in the ring to explain the conditions of the contest and tells the crowd that regardless of time, the six runners-up who win their matches tonight will be placed in the Elimination Chamber. Long is interrupted by Cody Rhodes, who says that it’s irrelevant who wins the Beat The Clock Challenge, because they’re only delaying the inevitable. Rhodes says if he beats the clock tonight, he WILL take the title from Sheamus at Elimination Chamber. If he doesn’t, Rhodes says he will win the Chamber Match and take the title from Sheamus or whomever takes the title from HIM at Wrestlemania. Rhodes says it’s just a matter of NOW or LATER.

Long tells Cody that since he’s so confident and so intent on being a trendsetter, that he wants to make Cody the one that sets the trend for Beat The Clock tonight. Sheamus enters with the World Championship and locks into an intense staredown with Cody before breaking into a grin. Teddy tells Cody to relax and that he’s given Sheamus the night off to scout the competition. Sheamus retreats to the ringside area and pulls up a chair as the opening contest gets underway.

Cody Rhodes def. Ted DiBiase in 5:56

Ted ducks The Beautiful Disaster and locks in a sleeper to set up for Dream Street, but Cody counters out and rolls to the outside. Backpedaling from the ring, Cody accidentally bumps into Sheamus, and instinctively throws a right hook out of self-defense. Enraged, Sheamus drills Cody with The Brogue Kick, drawing a disqualification and stopping the clock at 5:56. Angered that Sheamus cost him the Chamber, DiBiase jumps to the outside and starts berating the World Champion. After a time, Sheamus decides he’s had enough and throws DiBiase over the barricade.

Striker revisits last night’s contest between The Hurricane and the NEW Cruiserweight Champion JAY LETHAL.

Theodore Long is backstage congratulating Lethal on his title win. Long tells him to expect several Cruiserweights to be knocking on his door in the very near future. EDGE enters, making his rounds to re-introduce himself to his family on all brands and Teddy welcomes him back with open arms. Long empathizes with Edge, telling him that it’s been an up-and-down couple of days since his return. Edge says that the original plan was to book a six-man-tag team match at Elimination Chamber, but that he’s learned from the Board of Directors that there will be a series of matches booked for next week’s Smackdown that will determine just WHO will be participating in the match at EC. Only the winners will move on; it will be Rey Mysterio versus Alberto Del Rio, Christian versus Kurt Angle, and Edge versus Del Rio‘s final selection.
Mark Henry enters and tells Theodore Long to forget Cody Rhodes and the time to beat, forget Sheamus and forget the Beat The Clock Contest. Henry says that his is the face that will win the World Championship at EC and headline Wrestlemania as we go to commercial.

Mark Henry def. Justin Gabriel to qualify for the Elimination Chamber

Gabriel takes Henry off his feet and even lands the 450 Splash. But Henry shows incredible resilience, taking a two count before sitting up with Gabriel in tow and driving Justin through the canvas with the World’s Strongest Slam for the three count. Henry is furious that Gabriel’s pesky durability kept him from beating the clock, but promises to win the Chamber Match and take the title at Wrestlemania.
We throw up the graphic that shows Henry joining the Chamber Match, but Cody Rhodes still has the time to beat.

Long back in his office taking in the action and makes the announcement that next week on Smackdown, there will be a Gauntlet Match featuring the six participants in the Chamber to determine who ends up with the final spot.

Striker and Matthews recap the PPV card: The WWE Championship Chamber, The Extreme Elimination Chamber Match, The U.S. Title Match, The Fatal Four-Way Elimination Match for “The Streak”, the tentative six-man tag match that will change drastically next week, The World Championship Match featuring Sheamus against the Beat The Clock winner and Mark Henry among others in the #1 Contender’s Chamber match.

Teaser for the NEW WWE Tag Team Champions, The American Wolves going head to head with The Motor City Machineguns for the titles tonight.

Big Show enters in preparation for his Beat The Clock Match, and his opponent is KANE, who bullied his way into this match despite committing to a match to challenge The Streak on Monday night. Show and Kane immediately begin throwing punches before the bell and the match is underway.

Big Show def. Kane via DQ to qualify for the Elimination Chamber

The brawl spills out onto the floor and Kane BARELY escapes WMD, retreating to the timekeeper’s table. Eventually, the clock expires and a fuming Big Show approaches Kane only to take the ring bell to the gut drawing another DQ. The fray rages on, even though Show has already qualified for the Chamber. Over the barricade, through the crowd and into the ticket gates. Show and Kane brawl into the lobby and Show FINALLY catches the Big Red Monster with WMD. Show helps Kane back to his feet and chucks him through the plate glass windows in the vestibule.

Show climbs back through the crowd, over the barricade and locks into his own personal staredown with Sheamus, but Cody Rhodes STILL has the time to beat.

Theodore Long backstage with another former prospect from what was TNA that has finally jumped ship--PETEY WILLIAMS. Teddy tells Petey that he fully intends for him to make his debut next week on Smackdown. Muhammad Hassan enters and tells Teddy that he intends to protest the exclusion of himself and his compatriots from the Beat The Clock contest and file his lawsuit against WWE (He’s familiar with a Harvard lawyer; wink wink) for unfair business practices. Long says if he wants a shot, he’ll get one. Tonight, Muhammad Hassan will have a chance to Beat The Clock--AGAINST RANDY ORTON. Hassan and company argue amongst themselves as we go to break.

The American Wolves versus MCMG ended in a No Contest

Match of the night. Finish comes when MCMG connects with Thunder Express on Davey Richards, but before they can go for the cover, Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero crash the party and take out members of both teams. Finish comes when Hero and Castagnoli crush Alex Shelley with a Helicopter Crash. The Kings admire the carnage before leaving the ring. They are met on the ramp by Theodore Long, who tells them that they will get their shot at the titles at EC. Word handed down from the Board, Vince McMahon, Bret Hart, Paul Heyman and now himself is that The American Wolves will defend the Tag Team Titles against both the Kings and the Guns in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match.

Wade Barrett is seen heading to the ring as his Beat The Clock match is next. Cody Rhodes tells Barrett that he may yet win the Chamber Match, but once he (Cody) dethrones Sheamus at EC, he’s not going to go easy on Barrett at Wrestlemania. Barrett smirks and tells Rhodes to keep dreaming. Shelton Benjamin sneaks up behind Cody with his newly won IC Championship and innocently asks him what happened to entering Wrestlemania with BOTH titles. Cody tells him that he’s main-eventing EC and later Wrestlemania, then asks him where HE’s going to be on February 19 before walking away in a fury as we go to break.

Wade Barrett def. Booker T to qualify for the Elimination Chamber

Barrett evades the Scissor Kick and returns with The Winds of Change side slam and follows up with Wasteland, but time expires as Booker hits the canvas. Frustrated, Barrett makes the cover and qualifies for the Chamber, joining Mark Henry and Big Show, but Cody Rhodes STILL has the time to beat.

A recap of RAW Goes Old School and the latest inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame, Mick Foley.

Bryan Danielson def. Sin Cara to qualify for the Elimination Chamber

Sin Cara attempts La Mistica, but Danielson counters the Arm Drag into a Drop Toe Hold. Mysterio sneaks out from under the ring and stealthily connects with the 619. Cara staggers into the Crossface, but Sin Cara refuses to quit until time expires. Danielson continues to add torque until the International Sensation finally taps out. The American Dragon will join Big Show, Mark Henry and Wade Barrett in the Chamber. Cody Rhodes continues to hold the time to beat.

Lightning flashes on the screen, the signal cuts in and out with static and snow overtaking the image on the screen before the screen ultimately gives way to the multi-colored test pattern. The screen goes black and the number “173” repeatedly blinks on the frame. The signal cuts out again and the test pattern blares as the date 03/12/12 rolls across the screen.

Teaser for Randy Orton versus Muhammad Hassan coming up next.

Randy Orton def. Muhammad Hassan in 5:49

Orton hits Hassan with a Viper DDT and preps for an RKO, but Khali, Ranjin Singh, Daivari and Jinder Mahal climb on the apron and surround Orton. The Apex Predator goes on a feeding frenzy, dropping all four of them with RKOs before planting Hassan with a fifth for the three count with only seven seconds remaining on the clock. Randy Orton is now sitting pole position for a World Championship match with Sheamus at EC--which means Cody Rhodes joins Danielson, Barrett, Henry and Show in the Chamber.

DAVID OTUNGA emerges and tells Orton that he’ll have to settle for the sixth spot in the Chamber, because only one can win the Beat The Clock Challenge and compete for the World Title at EC, and Orton’s looking at him. Otunga says that Theodore Long has granted him the final Beat The Clock Match of the night and he fully intends to challenge Sheamus on February 19. Otunga awaits his opponent, and the lights go down....The gong sounds and the tone has DRASTICALLY changed.

The Undertaker def. David Otunga in 0:25 to become the #1 contender

A desperate Otunga charges, but Taker grabs him by the throat and chokeslams him. Glaring directly at the World Champion, Taker makes the cut throat gesture to Sheamus and drills Otunga with a Tombstone to Beat the Clock in record-shattering time. The Undertaker will now face Sheamus for the World Heavyweight Championship at Elimination Chamber. Teddy Long emerges and has decided to make the contest a LAST MAN STANDING MATCH. Taker and Sheamus meet in the center of the ring and lock up eye to eye. Sheamus raises the belt over his head and Taker’s glance shifts upward to the belt as Smackdown goes off the air.
