Tonight's re-launch of ECW emanates from the Allen Fieldhouse at the University of Kansas as we begin in the ring with Shane McMahon who announces that tonight will play host to the SUCCESSFUL rebirth of ECW and six qualifying matches to determine who will participate in the Elimination Chamber Match for the newly re-introduced ECW Championship belt that Shane now holds over his shoulder. Accompanied by Paul Heyman and ECW’s new GM JBL, Shane announces that the qualifying matches will feature a series of ECW Originals participating against superstars who are relatively new to the Extreme Landscape.
This brings out new Hall of Famer Mick Foley, who explains to Shane that he can do so much better for the fans, saying that after the PPV buyrate disaster that was December to Dismember, you owe them better. Foley clarifies, saying that on paper, D2D was a decent PPV, and even the Extreme Elimination Chamber main event had potential, but Foley says Heyman screwed it up by investing of all his interest in superstars like Big Show, Hardcore Holly, the late Andrew “Test” Martin, Bobby Lashley and CM Punk. Foley says with all due respect to Show, Punk and Bob Holly, these guys were new to the scene that was ECW, they didn’t have the slightest clue what the old ECW was all about and had a great deal of difficulty connecting with the ECW Traditionalists, which is why they demanded refunds at the end of the evening. Foley points out that the only superstar in the match that stayed loyal to the ECW formula was Rob Van Dam and he was finished half way through the match.
Foley implores Shane to do the right thing and give the fans what they want. Foley proposes six qualifying matches featuring twelve of the old ECW’s charter members. Shane agrees and provides the layout for the evening. For the spots in the Chamber, tonight will feature the following matches: SABU versus TERRY FUNK, RAVEN versus TOMMY DREAMER, THE SANDMAN versus BALLS MAHONEY, RHYNO versus STEVEN RICHARDS ROB VAN DAM versus JERRY LYNN and AL SNOW versus... MICK FOLEY!!! Foley grins at the decision and tells Paul Heyman: “For the record, December to Dismember 1995 was better...” The Land of Extreme has already been shaken up on its first night back as we go to break.

Brutal match. Funk actually hit a Texas Piledriver THROUGH a steel chair at one point, picking up only a two count after Sabu kicked out purely on instinct. Finish came when Funk went for a Moonsault on top of Sabu over a pile of unfolded chairs, only to have Sabu move at the last minute. Sabu uses one of the undamaged chairs as a pedestal to land a Triple Jump Moonsault for the win. Sabu joins Rhyno in the Chamber.

Angle applies the Ankle Lock, but Foley counters out, sending Angle to the floor. Foley chases Angle up the entranceway and rolls back into the ring. Foley says perhaps Mick Foley isn’t cut out for the Elimination Chamber. Maybe Mick Foley isn’t the guy that can connect with the ECW faithful going into the PPV.
Foley says fortunately for them, and UNFORTUNATELY for Kurt Angle, he knows someone who is and who can. Foley removes his flannel to reveal the “WANTED DEAD” T-shirt underneath. Foley tells Angle he won’t be facing Mick Foley one-on-one next week, and Mick Foley won’t enter the Chamber. But there’s a guy named CACTUS JACK who will be MORE THAN HAPPY to contribute. Cactus produces “Barbie” and says he has made his choice of weapon for the Chamber. And to Kurt Angle--HAVE A NICE WEEK! BANG BANG!!!! Cactus rocks back and forth nervously in the corner as ECW goes off the air.
