Tonight’s RAW Supershow emanates from the University of South Carolina at Columbia after the usual pyro and video package as Jim Ross welcomes us to the show. Ross is joined by Jerry Lawler only tonight. The King hypes the main event tonight as Alberto Del Rio has invoked his rematch clause for CM Punk’s newly won WWE Championship tonight. Jim Ross also teases the public apology that Vince McMahon requested from The Nexus, but is cut off by the entrance of John Cena, who comes to the ring alone.
Cena gets on the mic and explains that the assault on three TNA talents on last week’s Impact! took place without his prior knowledge, presenting an alibi for his absence from the attacks. Cena says on behalf of the Nexus that he is sorry...Sorry that he didn’t find out about the plans soon enough to join in. Cena says there will also be no apology nor any mercy for those who stand in the way of what Cena calls “The Greater Cause”.
Cena signals to the back and the Nexus nine emerge on the entrance ramp with three more unidentified talents, bound, blindfolded and shackled together; “Chain Gang”-style, if you will and roll them into the ring. The nine members of Nexus surround the ring to ensure there is no outside interference to make the save. Cena helps them to their knees and lines all three up--execution style and asks them for their names. The three blindfolded talents identify themselves as Eric Young, Crimson and Christopher Daniels.
Cena demands that each one of them concede their loyalty and surrender their contracts to The Nexus. Eric Young complies, but Cena clubs him in the back of the head with his lock and chain saying “We don’t want you.” Daniels complies after some “persuasion”, before being clocked with a crowbar. Cena turns his attention to Crimson, who outright refuses Cena’s request. Enraged, Cena crawls under the ring and overturns a tool box, pulling out a pipe wrench and striking a blindfolded Crimson in the temple with it.
The Nexus now enters the ring, surrounding Cena and John makes the statement: “We promised a more militant Nexus and you’re getting one. There will be no stopping until we achieve what we set out to do. TNA is finding out the hard way that you’re either Nexus, or you’re unconscious.” Cena drops the mic and Nexus leaves as EMT’s convene around their victims and we go to commercial.
Vince McMahon tells Triple H that the Nexus is totally out of control and that he needs to take the steps necessary to stem the tide. Vince tells Hunter to form a team of nine willing partners and he will book the match for TLC. Triple H nods and tells Vince that he knows just the guy to talk to before leaving the office.
Jack Swagger def. John Morrison, Zack Ryder (c), Alex Riley and Drew McIntyre in a U.S. Championship Chase Match (John Morrison eliminated)
Finish came when Morrison attempted Starship Pain but Swagger blocked with his knees and locked in an Ankle Lock. Ziggler interfered to take Ryder out of the equation with a ZigZag. Orton runs in and chases Ziggler off. Riley and McIntyre brawl into the crowd, leaving Morrison and Swagger in the ring.
The Spirit Squad emerges and annoys the crowd with their pointless antics and insufferable air horn chanting slogans and rally cries that the crowd clearly doesn’t care about. Shawn Michaels emerges and says he made a few more calls and has arranged for the Spirit Squad to take on the new WWE Tag Team Champions, The Kings of Wrestling in a 4-on-4 Elimination Tag Match next. Michaels tells them that the catch is the two new guys he’s called up to team with them. HBK sizes up the cheerleaders and tells them that “All he can say is...SORRY ‘BOUT YOUR DAMN LUCK!”...
BEER!!! MONEY!!!
JAMES STORM AND ROBERT ROODE enter followed by the new Tag Team Champions and storm the ring, cleaning house on the cheerleading troop and the match is underway.
The Kings of Wrestling and Beer Money, Inc. def. The Spirit Squad in a SQUASH.
Mitch starts against Chris Hero. Hero comes from out of NOWHERE with a Cyclone Kill, helps Mitch back to his feet and hits KTFO for the first pin. In comes Claudio who meets a charging Mikey with a flapjack before connecting with Swiss Death for an academic three. James Storm enters and Johnny throws a Dragon Whip Kick that Storm dodges and comes back with a Last Call Superkick of his own. Kenny stands alone, but not for long. Bobby Roode comes in with a full head of steam and destroys Kenny with a Northern Lariat to pick up the deciding fall.
After the match, The Kings and Beer Money celebrate, but the mood quickly changes as Beer Money jump Claudio and set Hero up for DWI before leaving the ring. It seems the tag team title picture is heating up quickly.
MVP backstage preparing for his upcoming match with Brodus Clay, gets jumped from behind and practically thrown through the wall as we go to commercial.
MVP def. Brodus Clay via DQ
MVP actually rallied back and gave Brodus a good fight, but at the end of the day, Brodus Clay had no intention of winning the match. After ignoring the referee’s five count on a Tongan Death Grip, Clay puts MVP through an announce table with a Diving Splash from the ring apron before leaving MVP in his wake of destruction.
Shawn Michaels and JBL bickering backstage about how they can both at least agree that MVP is entitled to a rematch at TLC. JBL begrudgingly makes the match and walks off. Triple H walks up to Shawn and asks a favor. Hunter says he hired HBK as EVP of Talent Relations because he knew that Shawn was the guy that could get him any superstar at any given time or place. Hunter says he needs Shawn to talk to Teddy and find five willing participants from Smackdown to take on Nexus at TLC while he searches for four partners here on RAW.
Shawn grins and says consider it done, on the condition that Triple H do a favor for him. Michaels says that it’s only the second week in and it’s already painfully obvious that the whole HBK/JBL dynamic just isn’t gonna work out. Michaels requests a TLC match with JBL for full control of RAW at the Pay-Per-View. Hunter tells him a favor for a favor and to consider it done...
John Cena & Wade Barrett def. Air Boom
Finish came when Kofi hit Trouble in Paradise on Cena, but Barrett responded with a Swinging Side Slam for a two count, before Evan broke up the pinfall. Kofi makes the hot tag to Bourne and after a brief flurry, Bourne ends up getting dropped by Wasteland. Cena comes to and locks in the STFU for the submission victory. After the match, Nexus serves another 10-on-1 beatdown to Kofi Kingston ending with Wasteland and a 450 Splash.
Randy Orton versus The Miz ended in a No Contest
Finish came when The Miz went for a Skull Crushing Finale, but Orton rolls out and goes for an RKO, but Miz counters as well, pushing Orton into the ref. R-Truth jumps the barricade and drops The Miz with Lil’ Jimmy before jumping the barricade and escaping through the crowd. Orton tries to capitalize, but is met halfway by Dolph Ziggler. Orton hits an RKO on Ziggler and celebrates on the ring post.
CM Punk is backstage talking with an anonymous party behind an unmarked dressing room door and asks if he’ll accompany him to ringside for the main event tonight. Apparently having gotten his answer, Punk thanks him and moves on.
Melina def. Beth Phoenix in a non-title match
Phoenix locks in Pin-Up Strong, but Melina shifts momentum in just the right direction to pin Beth’s shoulders to the mat and pick up a surprise three count.
An extended video package runs of the rivalry between CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio, beginning with Punk stealing the show --and the title-- at Money In The Bank while Del Rio won the briefcase, to next month’s Summerslam, when Del Rio initially cashed in, to the lead pipe that caused all the trouble at Hell In A Cell, The elimination Tag Match at Survivor Series before finally concluding with the title change last Monday leading up to tonight.
Del Rio enters in style (as always) prepared to make the most of his rematch and take his title back. CM Punk emerges and cuts his entrance short to make way for his corner man on this night--REY MYSTERIO! The Master of the 619 is still on crutches, understandably, recovering from ACL surgery and not due back until right around Mania. Nonetheless, Mysterio has arrived tonight to offer Punk moral support as we go to commercial.
Another mysterious promo airs saying “The time has come to make myself known again, Come the 2nd Day of January 2012, the World shall once again revel in the name: SHARE HIM, REJOICE--121299.”
CM Punk (with Rey Mysterio) def. Alberto Del Rio to remain WWE Champion
Del Rio tried every dirty trick in the book, employing Ricardo Rodriguez (Rodriguez got yet ANOTHER GTS for his troubles) to stealing one of Mysterio’s crutches to use as a weapon against Punk with the ref’s back turned. The efforts still only got him a two count. Punk throws a roundhouse kick that staggers Del Rio and drapes him across the middle rope. Mysterio takes his OTHER crutch and shatters it over Del Rio’s head.
Of course, Mysterio’s height plays to his advantage, as the ref is completely oblivious to what just happened. Del Rio is easy pickings for GTS and Punk successfully defends his title. Punk and Mysterio celebrate the title win as Del Rio picks the butterfly screws from his head to end the show.
